Life as we know it

Climate Change: Why Aren’t We Screaming Yet?

Climate change is real. Climate change is real. Climate change is real. Period!

Stop and look around. Does everything seem normal-ish? With all the crazy things happening around us, do we still need proof or we just do not see it?

I think this topic has been one of the most debated in the modern world, and even though there seems to be much sound about it, the results do not show as much promise. Even though there is a global pandemic still at hand, which has thrown life out of gear, some for the better, some worse, is not the only pressing issue at the moment. Climate change and its environmental effects, could play an important role in understanding what we are dealing with at the moment.

Also, if you are one of those, who don’t think anything is wrong or it doesn’t bother/effect you at the moment or it’s jus a fad, then you really need a reality check and or something is really wrong in your thought process.

Dealing with unfamiliar weathers, changes in the environment and scarcity of resources has been playing on mind since a while. Hence, the post today (also coz the weather has been really weird these days). Not trying to be preachy, but we really need to pay attention to where we are headed.

Why aren’t we screaming yet?

I mean really, why aren’t we?

We are not really far from an existential threat and while many people (including great leaders, no points for guessing) thinks this is irrelevant, the consequences show otherwise. A complete wipeout of various species (including us in the line) is impending, while we sit and sip our coffees. Did you know climate change affects coffee production negatively? Nooo!!

We are seeing more and more heatwaves around the word, torrential rains out of the seasons, extreme weathers being a norm, clean waters disappearing, rainforests threatened, air becoming unbreathable, and the list continues. What we need is action, right now. People and govts taking this seriously, because we are all effected by it, no matter which part of the world we are living in.

Even if you feel like you might not live to see the worst, effects are creeping in which are quite apparent. Every disaster is like an eye-opener, which shows us why climate change is an issue and why we need to work together with our natural environment & not the other way around, to make this planet sustainable.

We are running out of time and quite literally. It’s time we educate ourselves, because we only have one planet to live on and work with. Well, at least until someone figures out how to live on Mars or elsewhere in the universe.

So what can we do about it?
Climate change needs to be taken seriously, there is no planet B

Honestly, I am no environmental expert or an activist, but a normal person wanting a better planet for all of us & years to come. We don’t want be leaving our future generations with a damaged, beyond repair planet leading towards only destruction, do we?. They don’t deserve that.

However, if there is one thing we humans learnt, it is to hang onto hope, even in direst of situations. So, let’s look at things we, as humankind, can together work on to curb climate change and its effects. We need to act now!

Restoring our biodiversity:

We are all aware of millions of species that have gone extinct in the last couple of decades and continuing to, owing to our activities, quest for a better life and making room for our ever-growing population. Restoring balance is crucial, such as increasing marine life stock and wildlife conversion through protection & promoting breeding. Support ecosystems worldwide, we all need to co-exist for it to work.

Renewable energy has to be the go-to:

Switching to more natural energy sources, such a s solar and hydropower, has to be top priority. Not only are these natural, but there is no dearth of them either. It is being implemented in quite a few places, but what we need is for it to be done on large scale with major countries and companies, playing the key role. Moreover, we also need to reduce our energy consumption as much as possible, which goes without saying.

Keeping a check of our population:

Living in 2nd most populous country (soon to be the 1st) in the world, I think I understand this first-hand. What we need is more awareness when it comes to population control and better prospects for women in education and careers to aid this. It’s all just interconnected. Imagine the world overflowing with not enough resources for all, burdening the planet to no end. Not a cool scene.

Also, making other small changes like promoting clean tech, eco-friendly alternatives to our daily use products, reducing our consumption, producing less wastage, and being aware, can help to a great extent too. Remember we only have one Earth.

Reaching towards the end of the world are we? Or there is still time for redemption for us when it comes to protecting our planet? It’s us who gets to decide. However, I would like to believe there is still hope for all of us.

Until next time, please be mindful and responsible.

P.S. Do check out David Attenborough’s documentary by for some eye openers and where we stand. It can be quite depressing at times to be frank, but definitely insightful, just the same!
